The Grievance Review Committee was set up in 1996 by the Council 93 Executive Board to review all grievances that are sent to arbitration.

The Grievance Review Committee is comprised of four (4) members of the Council 93 Executive Board.   Two (2) members are from the state side and two members are from the city side.  Two (2) members serve as committee members and two (2) members serve as alternates.  They serve a total of 12 months, six (6) months as an alternate and six months as a committee member.

The Grievance Review Committee meets monthly to review all cases.  All cases are filed to arbitration prior to review to protect the time limits.  Cases are initially reviewed by the Committee only. Cases that are clear violations of a contract are sent forward for scheduling.  If a case is questionable the local president and grievant are sent notice inviting them to the following month’s meeting for discussion and a final vote of the Committee.

Any case that is withdrawn by the Committee may be appealed to the Council 93 Executive board by the president of the local within 30 days of the notice of withdrawal.  The grievant does not have the right to appeal.
