6th Annual Botelho Golf Tournament turns out record number of golfers 08/24/2012

Golfers of all skill levels hit the links on July 20 for 18 holes of fun, relaxation and friendly competition all aimed at a great cause – raising money for Council 93’s M. Michael Botelho Scholarship Fund.

A total of 21 teams comprised of 84 golfers worked their way through the challenging course at the Mt. Hood Golf Club in Melrose, MA, a beautiful public course – with sweeping views of the Boston skyline and Revere Beach.  According to tournament organizers Charlie Owen (Council 93 President) and Mark Bernard (Council Staff Representative), it was a record turn-out for the 6th Annual event – with 12 more golfers participating over last year.  Participation in the event has grown approximately 15% per year since the first tourney was held in 2006 and organizers are already on a mission to top the 100 mark next year.

Established in honor of Council 93’s first Field Services Director, the Botelho Scholarship fund provides educational financial assistance to Council 93 members, their spouses, children, grandchildren and legal dependents.

As for the official results, the team of Local 1631 captured top honors.  Led by Local 1631 President and Council 93 Executive Board member Christopher “Tiger” Stockbridge, the team of  Tiger, Manny Dorosario, Sardi Cela and Ray Boly won with a -13 score. Boly also captured the longest drive contest on the men’s side while Council 93 staffer Nancy McGovern scored the longest drive among the women.

The day closed out with a luncheon and raffle for a number of prizes including autographed sports memorabilia, golf accessories and cash. Close to $9,000 in funds were raised by the tournament bringing the six-year total to well over $35,000.
