Repeal the WEP/GPO TODAY!

For nearly forty years, the harmful and unjust Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO) have robbed millions of retirees of tens of thousands of dollars in hard-earned Social Security benefits. These harmful policies disproportionately impact women- more than 84% of surviving spouses impacted by the GPO are women, and many are harmed by both the WEP and GPO.

HR 82, the Social Security Fairness Act of 2021, which has broad bi-partisan support from 296 members of Congress, addresses the deep cuts in Social Security benefits suffered by public sector workers. The workers impacted by these unjust cuts pay the same Social Security tax over their careers as those receiving full benefits, but do not reap the full benefit of their contributions.

However, Rep. Richard Neal (MA 1st) is one of only two members of the New England Congressional Delegation to not sign on to HR 82.

Please urge Rep. Neal to support HR 82, without mark up and to move the bill intact from the Ways and Means Committee to the House floor for a vote as quickly as possible, so that current and future public sector workers will be able to receive the Social Security benefits they are rightly entitled to.
