Massachusetts Student Wins National AFSCME Scholarship Contest 04/02/2015

The daughter of two long-time members of the Council 93 family was recently selected as one of just ten winners of a generous college scholarship from our International Union.

Riley Magner, a senior at Braintree High School in Massachusetts, will receive a $2,000 AFSCME Family Scholarship to help her and her parents meet the high cost of a college education.
The scholarship can be renewed for up to four years, making Riley eligible for a total of $8,000. in assistance.

Harsh Winter Takes Toll on Dedicated AFSCME Snow Plow Driver 02/23/2015

Canton. MA - The recent wave of winter storms has public works employees across New England working around the clock to keep our roads and highways clear and safe for passage.

Knowing how much the citizens and public safety personnel count on them, these workers have approached their jobs with a steadfast determination to work as hard and as long as it takes to get the job done. Recently, one AFSCME member took that that dedication to a new level - a level that nearly cost him his life.

"The past few days have reminded us all how fortunate we are to have an experienced, dedicated public workforce. While most people have been safe at home, AFSCME Council 93 members across New England have been working around the clock to make our highways, roads and sidewalks safe for passage. Many other AFSCME members working in human services and other essential positions have been on the job for days, with some sleeping at work to make sure they were there for the people who need them.
