AFSCME Council 93 Boston Locals Ratify Citywide Contract

“This afternoon, AFSCME Council 93 Boston Citywide members ratified a four-year contract that will provide significant base wage gains, more flexible working conditions and scheduling, increased time off, and more, with no major givebacks from the Union!

These front-line workers provide the basic, and often unheralded, city services we all rely on and are deserving of a contract that recognizes and values their work that helps make Boston the world-class city it is today.

While there is still work to be done, this contract is a great first step towards addressing recruitment and retention issues facing the city, and communities across the country, by providing rewarding careers in public service with fair pay, good benefits, advancement opportunities, and time-off to spend with loved ones.

Thank you to Mayor Wu and her administration for being a partner with AFSCME Council 93 in working to provide a fair contract that will not only attract applicants to city services but also keep valued veteran employees working for the City of Boston.

Special thanks to our AFSCME Boston Citywide Bargaining Team and Director of Field Services and Organizing Eddie Nastari for focusing on a contract that benefits all AFSCME members across the City of Boston. Whether they have spent their entire working lives with the City or have only just begun their careers in public service, this contract recognizes the important work our members do, day in and day out.

Congratulations to the hard-working men and women of Locals 296, 445, 703, 783, 804, 944, 1198, 1631, and 1892 on their well-deserved Union contract!”

Mark Bernard
Executive Director AFSCME Council 93

“After months of intense negotiations, we are pleased to announce that we brought a fair deal back to the members of the AFSCME Citywide Bargaining Unit and they ratified it. Our AFSCME Boston Citywide Bargaining Team looked not only for financial compensation, but also that city employees be treated with the dignity and respect they deserve! We want to make Boston a city that people want to work for because of the pay, benefits, and working conditions! This contract addressed all of this, and the members have spoken!”
