Council 93 Endorses Sen. Ed Markey for Re-Election

Congratulations to U.S. Senator Ed Markey who received the unanimous endorsement of the Council 93 Executive Board this past weekend in his campaign for re-election in 2020. Below are statements from Executive Director Mark Bernard and Senator Markey:

"Our union is proud to continue our longstanding support for Senator Ed Markey," said Council 93 Executive Director Mark Bernard. "Throughout his more than three decades of work in the house and senate, Ed has been a consistent and strong supporter of our issues. There's a reason that unions and management consistently agree that the value of work experience should be recognized in every contract we sign. It's because both sides believe in ensuring that the most experienced people with the greatest amount of institutional knowledge are placed in the most important jobs. We view Ed's his long tenure in Washington as one of his strongest assets. With so much at stake in the U.S. Senate, now more than ever, we need seasoned leaders like Ed Markey fighting for us."

"I am honored to receive the endorsement of AFSCME and its members, whose efforts on behalf of working families are so important to Massachusetts," said Markey. "From our public universities and colleges, to our state parks, to correctional facilities, to our school campuses, Council 93 makes up the backbone of state and municipal government, working quietly behind the scenes as truly the unsung heroes of government services. I am humbled by the strong and vocal support my campaign is receiving, and I will continue to reach out to all of unions, organizations, and residents throughout the Commonwealth who believe in standing up for working families and fighting for progressive values."
