Local 1067 Reaches Tentative Agreement with Department of Higher Education

On Friday, June 23, 2023, AFSCME Council 93 reached a Tentative Agreement (TA) with the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education for Local 1067 members. Covering the twenty-four community college and public universities across the Commonwealth, Local 1067 members are vital to the operations of Massachusetts' higher education system. In total, approximately 2,500 members will benefit from this contract which, if ratified, will run from July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024.

During negotiations, Local 1067 focused on winning wage increases for the members who provide support services to the higher education system across the state.

The contract includes the following provisions:

  • A 4% increase effective July 1, 2023
  • A second 4% increase effective January 1, 2024
  • A pool of approximately $1.2 million to be used for reclassifications and adjustments with a specific focus on job series that have not been reviewed or reclassified in a number of years.
  • If, during the term of this agreement, a CBA is submitted and funded by the legislature to include across-the-board salary adjustments in excess of those outlined in this agreement, the parties will re-open those provisions of the agreement for further bargaining.

The next step will be to conduct a vote on ratification of the contract. Dates, times, and locations are still being finalized for the ratification vote.

The contract will only take effect once it is ratified by a vote of the majority of Local 1067 members and funded by the state legislature.
