EMS Week Highlight- Local 4911 Assists in New Hampshire Vaccine Effort

In honor of EMS Week, we wanted to highlight some of the work that AFSCME Local 4911 members have been doing in New Hampshire to help in the COVID-19 fight. EMS workers have been on the the front of the front lines in the fight against COVID-19 since day one. They put themselves and their families at risk to treat our families and keep our communities safe. They are front line heroes who deserve our gratitude for their hardwork and dedication.

The Government Pension Offset (GPO) and the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) to Social Security are a threat to all working people and are completely unacceptable.

The GPO and WEP wrongfully strip hard-working people of the full Social Security benefits they earned and paid for, simply because they are also entitled to a public pension benefit.

If politicians are willing to cut the hard-earned Social Security benefits of some public service retirees, they'll do it to others too.

AFSCME applauds House passage of workplace violence bill

Workers in health care and social service industries are a big step closer to having safer workplaces.

On Friday, the House of Representatives passed the Workplace Violence Prevention for Health Care and Social Service Workers Act (H.R.1195) by a bipartisan vote of 254 to 166. The bill requires the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to issue a standard to prevent workplace violence in health care and social service assistance settings.

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE-COVID-19 Pension Bill

We know have a NEW BILL NUMBER and committee assignment for the AFSCME Council 93 bill that would provide a three-year pension credit for essential public-sector workers who were required to work outside of their homes during the pandemic.
